If you’ve ever thought of Thailand, than ultimately you’ve heard about the Thailand food. It is diverse in offerings and in flavours. But one thing that resonates in the cuisine is their penchant for chili peppers. A large portion of Thai food includes Chili peppers. #FriFotos theme this week is in lieu of the LOndon Olymics and is – The Best. Although I will be one of those people NOT watching the Olympics – I DO have a lot of things that I think are The Best. So what are they? Come take a LOOK
Photo of the Week: The Spirits in Trees – Thailand in Colour
I passed this tree while in Erawan Falls, Thailand. Trees all over Thailand are wrapped in colourful clothes. Yes they are beautiful to look at, but what is the deeper meaning; what do they signify?
For the first part of 2010 I was on a University exchange program in Bangkok, Thailand attending Thammasat University. This was my first time in Asia and it stole my heart. I traveled around a lot due to the extremely cheap prices in South East Asia. I even headed north to Japan for 10 days to visit friends; which was the reason Japan got onto this list; I’d never afford Japan without my extremely generous friends who let me stay with them. My best friend Jeannie came to visit for the month of May and we did a whirlwind tour hitting the 4 countries of Thailand, Cambodia, Malaysia, and Singapore. I had a month off so headed to Indonesia before flying to the South of Philippines for a 2 month work placement. In September I returned to Canada to finish my last year of my undergraduate degree in the country’s capital of Ottawa.
Chiang is a place filled with endless adventures. One of my favourites was learning how to train an elephant – in Thai. Climbing, Feeding, Cleaning, Swimming, Mud fights – elephants are incredible.
Hiking in a hilltop village in Chiang Mai, Thailand
For an adventure while in Chiang Mai, Jeannie and I went for a two day hike up the mountains to spend the night with a hilltop tribe. They did not speak Thai so our guide acted as our translator.
