Slovenia. One of my favourite countries. Budget-friendly and exceptionally beautiful. My costs are slightly higher than they NEED to be, but that is because I headed to a real restaurant twice. What can I say – I wanted service.
2012 has been an extremely fun year for me. I travelled 4 continents and 14 countries. So I figured I would give you a summary type post about my entire year filled with my a dazzling photo of moi (har har) along with a Post line-up for each country I visited. Here we go.
People know about Slovenia because of Bled. They know about the little island with a beautiful castle in the middle. Well, Mojca, my couchsurfing host, took me to Bohinj first. It’s more beautiful, I don’t know why everybody loves Bled so much. We went to both in the same day – two beautiful lakes with two beautiful churches – which did I love more?
Slovenia to me was the most welcoming little country. The smaller population led to multiple smaller towns – and to me, small towns represent friendlier people, walkable cities, and charm. Slovenia offered everything. I was staying just outside of Kranj with Mojca. She had a dog – Ishie. Ishie needs his walks so I was fortunate enough to wander around the countryside of Slovenia and being able to hop, skip, jump my way into Kranj for some exploration.
Underground – 160 Metres to be precise – are hidden the treasures of Slovenia. They are carved out with stalactites hanging from the ceiling and vibrations bouncing off the walls from the rivers rushing through them. A place where no natural sunlight reaches and yet life survives. Yes – these are the caves of Slovenia. And this is my adventure 160 Metres underground in Park Skocjanske Jame.
Ljubljana – I sLOVEnia you. It is a simple statement – yet it holds so much emotion. Ljubljana is a brilliant capital city that encompasses so much of what makes Slovenia a wonderful country. It has architecture, friendly locals, a street cafe style, and a wonderful downtown to walk through (no cars allowed). I’ve never asked much of cities – but Ljubljana blew my expectations away with its small town punch.
