Photo Diary: Moroccan Views

When I moved to Morocco I was expecting to live in the desert and see camels everywhere. Call me naive – I call myself optimistic. I love the desert and I love camels. But in reality, what I found in Morocco was a varity of landscapes and cityscapes – all unexpected. Top 5 Favourites: Morocco Edition

I was in Morocco for 2 months. I was working during my time. I was able to take the slow approach to learning about the people and the culture of Morocco. When I came to Morocco, I only had a vague idea of what was drawing me to this country, begging for me to experience it. A Farewell Moroccan Feast

In lieu of me leaving Morocco, ok actually, in lieu of the other intern working with me at Peacock Pavilions family visiting, which happened to coincide with the time I was leaving; We had a fabulous Moroccan meal to celebrate. Celebrate their arrival to Marrakech, Morocco, not my departure. Or maybe they were celebrating that. Either way, we had a feast, the drinks were pretty, the food was constructed beautifully, and the dessert was melt in your mouth delicious.

Moroccan Cooking I: To Market We Go

Being in Morocco is my first time being in Africa. Everything was new. Everything was Exciting. But mostly – everything was Delicious. So I found a cooking school, Souk Cuisine, signed myself up, and was ready to expand my worldly cooking knowledge (Really the lack there of). With his passion for botany and his artistic talents, he created the Jardin Majorelle, and he opened this marvel to the public in 1947. Essa-where? Essaouira!

On the coast of Morocco is a city that I struggled to pronounciate: Essaouira. Essa-where? Pronounced Ess-ah-where-ah. Oh Right. Essaouira. This Berber name translates to “The Wall“, and that is exactly what you will find; a hill walls fortifying the city. But this place is more than The Wall, it is a quaint coastal town, with welcoming breezes off the ocean. Essaouira is a charming one.
