Budget – Northern Italy

Oh Italy. You lure me in with your ancient ruins, your seductive language, and your mouth-watering food. I come to you like like a child to a lollypop. But then you hit me on the head with said lollypop (or maybe a pizza?) because you are SO expensive. Although I think I faired decently at $71/day on average with much travelling – it still made my wallet cry as I enjoyed that gelato and pasta! So how did I spend these $71 per day?

Duomo Duomo Duom-OH!

I’ve been excited to visit the Duomo is Milan since I first saw a photo of it while doing a project on Milan in Grade 4. Being a lover of churches, I love their open interiors, their high vaulted ceilings, their grandiose. The Duomo is a cream-of-the-crop church. Needless to say I was expecting stars. I walked inside and went hmmm…?. I was worried! Had I churched myself out? Could it be? Had I finally seen it all? Not even close.

A Night in Milan: Ruins, Wine, and a Good Time!

 

I flew into Milan, Italy. It was my first stop after Morocco. I’ve been to Italy before. But only on a 2 week guided tour bus that visited BOTH Italy and Greece. 2 weeks doesn’t do any country justice. Especially not two powerhouse countries such as Italy and Greece. I arrived and found my hostel – Zebra Hostel – and met my bunkmates – 4 Canadians, 5 Brits, and 2 Americans. Our first night in town was filled with what I expected Italy to be: Ruins and Wine.

I am currently in Morocco doing a workaway. I was originally heading to Jordan next and then on to Europe. Plans change and I am now returning to Canada June 25th for a Job. I booked my Flight; Athens, Greece-Toronto, Canada. Lets recap. I am currently in: Marrakech, Morocco. I have a flight to: Milan, Italy. I fly out of: Athens, Greece. Since I want to stay out of Canada as long as possible – This means for the month of June I am Balkans Bound!
