I asked if he would mind me taking a photo of his tattoos – He said yes as long as I did not touch him or his robes. The traditional tattoo in Thailand is called “Sak Yant”. These tattoos are believed to have originated from the Khmer period approximately 3,000 years ago.The tradition Buddhist tattoos are symmetrical designs based on images of the Buddha, Bodhisattvas, the Lotus or some other type of Buddhist symbols. The tattoos are meant to attract luck, wealth and blessings as well as provide insurance against evil spirits.
