To have a life of travel means I carry all my belongings with me in a backpack. I opt to not shop because the more I buy the more I have to lug around. And the less time I can spend on the road because I’ve just bought a souvenir. But what about when you go to Singapore as your last stop and your best friend is flying home immediately after? You shop til you drop (and not even break the bank).
For the first part of 2010 I was on a University exchange program in Bangkok, Thailand attending Thammasat University. This was my first time in Asia and it stole my heart. I traveled around a lot due to the extremely cheap prices in South East Asia. I even headed north to Japan for 10 days to visit friends; which was the reason Japan got onto this list; I’d never afford Japan without my extremely generous friends who let me stay with them. My best friend Jeannie came to visit for the month of May and we did a whirlwind tour hitting the 4 countries of Thailand, Cambodia, Malaysia, and Singapore. I had a month off so headed to Indonesia before flying to the South of Philippines for a 2 month work placement. In September I returned to Canada to finish my last year of my undergraduate degree in the country’s capital of Ottawa.
