Travel History: 2010

For the first part of 2010 I was on a University exchange program in Bangkok, Thailand attending Thammasat University. This was my first time in Asia and it stole my heart. I traveled around a lot due to the extremely cheap prices in South East Asia. I even headed north to Japan for 10 days to visit friends; which was the reason Japan got onto this list; I’d never afford Japan without my extremely generous friends who let me stay with them. My best friend Jeannie came to visit for the month of May and we did a whirlwind tour hitting the 4 countries of Thailand, Cambodia, Malaysia, and Singapore. I had a month off so headed to Indonesia before flying to the South of Philippines for a 2 month work placement. In September I returned to Canada to finish my last year of my undergraduate degree in the country’s capital of Ottawa.

Walking through the Ubud Market in Indonesia means I encountered all sorts of trinkets and gifts. They even had these beautifully carved wooden pinocchio dolls – Thats right – Bali’s up on the popularity of Disney. I loved these dolls because they reminded me so much of the actual movie and of Mr.Gepetto!

Pura Luhur Ulu Watu – Bali, Indonesia

Pura Luhur Ulu Watu is an incredible temple complex in the Kuta South district of Bali which was built in the 11th century.  “Luhur” means “something of divine origin” while “Ulu” which means “land’s end” and “Watu” means “rock” in the Balinese language.
