Photo of the Week: Yellow Lanterns in Taiwanese Temple

Taiwan Temple Candeliers 1 Photo of the Week: Yellow Lanterns in Taiwanese Temple

Yellow is the colour of good luck in Taiwanese culture. Red signifies happiness.  The lanterns are quintessential symbols of Taiwanese and Chinese culture. The lanterns are hang to symbolize brightness, harmony, happiness and good luck all in one. Hanging lanterns have many purposes, and few are to warm the house, send away evil spirits, and create an atmosphere of harmony.

  1. Hmm, I didn’t know that about the colour yellow…..but seeing all those lanterns in Taiwan was so fun!! :)

    • They are beautiful. They add such a wonderful touch to the temples and the streets.

  2. LOVE this shot, Chrystal! We have similar-ish lanterns here in Korea that go up during festival time and make all this drab concrete a hell of a lot more fun. Saw similar things to this as I was in Taiwan for Lunar New Year in 2011 :)

    • Really – if its drab concrete all year round they should just keep the pretty lanterns up! Would make people a lot more cheerful to see pretty colours all day every day instead of sad grey.
