Photo of the Week: Zig-Zag Stairs of Berat Orthodox Church, Albania

The zig zag path leads up to the 13th-century Byzantine Orthodox church of the Holy Trinity, St.Mary’s, in Berat. It is perched high on the side of a hill and is located inside the 3rd century fortress of Berat.

  1. Looks beautiful! I like the secluded look of this place.

    • It was high up on a hill within the Fortress walls. It was wonderful!

  2. Lovely crisp colours that invite a visit.

    • Thank You! Albania truly is the last unspoilt place on the Adriatic – just as their Slogan says!

  3. Wow, I love this glimpse of an area I know absolutely nothing about. I have this secret obsession with trying to make it to Serbia, Montenegro, Albania and Macedonia simply because I know nothing about any of these places!

    • Exactly why I did this month long whirl-wind through the Balkans – It is such an enchanting area and yet I knew almost nothing about it too. You’ll have to squeeze those destinations into your busy life – I’d LOVE to hear about your take on them!
