Photo of the Week: Burano, Italy

All the houses in Burano, Italy are painted different colours. The island inhabitants are all fisherman and the females are lace-makers. The myth goes that the houses are painted multi-coloured since the fisherman spent so long at sea they would forget where they lived. The colour-coding helped them remember which house was theirs. It also helped the men to see their houses while out on their boats.
