Just 5 minutes that way. Dublin, Ireland & The Guinness Storehouse
Just 5 minutes that way. Dublin, Ireland
When you hear the statement “5 Minutes that way” in Ireland. Do not take it for the truth. As Megan and I wandered lost through the streets of Dublin looking for our hostel, every 5 minutes we asked somebody for directions and the response was “5 Minutes that way”. 5 Minutes that way never came.
How far to this hostel? 5 Minutes that way? What? But we’ve already walked 5. This went on for almost 2 hours. Turns out it was really far away. Guess we should of splurged and bought a taxi. We arrived eventually. Thank goodness our flight landed so early in Dublin.
We went sight seeing via City Tour Buses. Sit on a bus, they explain the sights, hop on hop off as you please. We hopped off at one stop only- The Guinness Storehouse.
We did the tour of the entire factory which was a very informative tour. Hops, Barley, Water, & Mashing. We were also taught how to properly drink a Guinness; how to pour, the appropriate amount of head, how to smell it, swish it, and finally swallow it. It is no simple process this art of drinking Guinness. It needs to be caressed and cherished.
Another fact they shared was how Guinness only truly tasted at it’s prime when it came from the Dublin factory, and when it is drank in Dublin. Apparently Guinness does not ship well, and they have to adjust the recipe to enable it to be shipped around the world. So until you try a Guinness in the Storehouse, you haven’t truly tried a Guinness. Maybe this is a marketed gimmick? But hey – if you’re in Dublin, the Guinness Storeroom is an excellent way to spend an afternoon.
At the end of the tour I decided to save a memory and I purchased a Shirt: “Every Girl Deserves a Little Black Drink.”
When was the last time you had a little black drink?
